Wilderness Chess960 Tournament at Fairy Knowe Hotel

The Wilderness Chess Club Freestyle Chess960 Tournament takes place on Sunday 11 October 2026 at Fairy Knowe Hotel in Wilderness. This combined, unrated Chess960 tournament is open to adults and juniors. Players will complete five rounds using a time control of 25 minutes plus a five-second increment.

Each round will use one legal random Chess960 starting position across every board. A different position will be generated for each new round. Chess sets and clocks are supplied, and players do not need to record their moves. Participants should already understand standard chess rules.

Early-bird entry costs R150 per player until 31 August 2026. Standard entry costs R200. Registration closes at 23:59 on Thursday 8 October 2026, or earlier if the tournament reaches capacity.

Prize categories include overall gold, silver and bronze, top female player, top U13 player and top U13 girl. U13 players must have been born in 2013 or later. Final prize packages will be announced on 25 September 2026.

Free parking, refreshments for purchase, a cash bar and a small meal for registered players will be available. Children must be supervised around the pool, and anyone planning to swim must bring a towel.
