The Hartenbos campsite is where you go when you are “Bok vir sports” as they say in Afrikaans. Everything is done on an American scale. The bathrooms on some of the sites are so big they have tables and chairs inside.
There are about 570 stands (which is a lot) and some of those are on the shoreline. We aren’t sure who you have to bribe or backrub to get the shore campsites, but it is just as much fun at any of the other spots. Whichever campsite you do end up getting you are always only 5 minutes away from the beach.
The Hartenbos campsite is the kind of campsite you go to if you want to be close to a mall, a heated pool, a waterpark, restaurants and of course the beach. The campsites themselves are slightly smaller than some of the other campsites in the region but certainly big enough for a single family of up to six people and maybe some space left to park your car.
You could easily do Hartenbos for a long weekend, maybe a week once you get set in. Two weeks would be a stretch for some.
Unfortunately not all the sites have braai facilities, we got lucky but you might have to go to the nearby Pick ‘n Pay to get yourself a cheap braai stand.
