Discover the Hidden Pepsi Pools in George
Pepsi Pools: The dark, bubbly pools resembling the famous Pepsi drink is a true George gem.
This place is too good to share because it feels hidden and secluded. It does tend to get busy in peak season. During off-peak, you might feel safer doing it as a group simply because the walk is tucked away.
The leisurely route from Nelson Mandela University
When you arrive at the University, drive from the security entrance and keep straight on the main road, which eventually turns into a dirt road – at some point, there will be a fork in the road, stay right. Follow the dirt road to a gate near green-roofed rondawels called the Tolbos Building. You will likely see a few other cars parked here.
Park your car and hike on the dirt road, only 2.25 km away.
After about one kilometre, you will see a fork in the road; take the right-hand path. This route is less steep and shaded by forest canopy, offering a pleasant hike. However, both trails to the left or right lead to the Pepsi Pools.
DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST RIGHT PATH that comes a few hundred meters earlier; that will take you to the top of the mountain and is an entirely different experience! – See the map we provided!
More challenging trails to the Pools
For cycling enthusiasts and dog owners, there is another way to reach the Pepsi Pools. The route from the Garden Route Dam also offers a chance to rendezvous with family midway (Indicated on our map). Starting from the Garden Route Dam, this path is a 6km journey (one way), so it won’t be suitable for small dogs.
Would you prefer a longer trek? Embark on an 11km walk from the Botanical Gardens (one way). This route is challenging and should ONLY be considered if you are an avid hiker. You could get lost, so be careful about taking this route.
