Most of us love having wonderful dinner parties; some of us however do not have the skills to host these superb parties… We don’t all know how to whip up a bowl of mayonnaise, make a salad dressing or the secrets behind the perfect meringue. Well at least I don’t know….
Cook Culinary Studio, in Honeydew, is there to teach us the ways of becoming the perfect hostess. The lovely Debbie has set up the quaintest kitchen in her home to welcome women, and men I suppose, to come and learn a few secrets to making a delicious meal as well as some very handy craft tips.
There are different themed courses available during the year. The course on at the moment is themed ‘An African Christmas’. Debbie has decided to make the Christmas meal a more summery one, with a table decorated to honour Madiba. The menu included the most delicious selection of recipes, including Goat’s cheese bruschetta, oven baked salmon, a variety of yummy salads and berry pavlova.
We were welcomed into the kitchen with a Sparkling Peach Bellini, the perfect summer cocktail. Once everyone was seated, Debbie and her assistant started the demonstration of how to make everything on the menu. We then moved into the dining room area where she showed us her version of the Madiba inspired table setting. She shared clever craft tips for gift wrapping and for making decorations. Everything was so easy to do and looked absolutely gorgeous when set up.
We then went back to the kitchen and Debbie did the finishing touches on all the food, and our time for the feast arrived! Everything on the menu was delicious! I was sceptical about some of the flavour combinations at first, but then was pleasantly surprised at how good it all tasted.
The whole evening was lovely – no better word to describe it! We learnt that hosting a dinner party does not need to involve hard work and can be very affordable. I am now inspired to be more crafty and creative and to get into the kitchen. No doubt I can now impress anyone with newly acquired hostessing skills.
