POST, 70 Juta Street (Braamfontein)
THE HEART OF BRAAMFONTEIN

And I thought I moved to Joburg? Just having made the big trek up from artsy fartsy Cape Town, the outing to Post, in Jozi’s downtown, was a welcomed breath of fresh indie air!

Situated at the pinnacle of 70 Juta Street, Post is your ultimate fix of high top sneaker-wearing, sling-bagged, bowel-cut hair styled, see-through rayban sunglass-wearing peeps. It’s the ultimate Indie scene. I mean this all in a very good way! Post is great for people watching, grabbing a quick sit-down gourmet snack or for whipping out your laptop and working on your photography portfolio. The place offers a sense of inspiration.

Each meal is prepared in front of you in the open plan deli-like-kitchen by mysterious, quiet, yet sexy indie guys. I got a little shy when I had to order, no lies! Anyways enough of the gorgeous people,Post is a comfortable space to relax, listen to warm old school records playing in the background, people watch, and sit in your own little world staring out through big glass windows onto the hive of activity that Braamfontien oozes.

While you wait for your food to be prepared, you can stroll around 70 Juta checking out a bunch of niche, alternative, exciting stores that will serve up your indie fix of local Jozi fashion, sophisticated furniture designs, photographic gadgets, and many more. Once you’re done, head back to Post, the heart of this area. We sat down with one of the owners Adrian Ferreira to find out more – not to mention his trademark cigarette behind the ear look (which we think is super old-school cool), Ferreira expressed that Post is not just a deli-like designation, it is a “physical, tangible space” encapsulating an exciting fusion of music, fashion, art and design. I ordered the ever-so-popular Post burger, with a scrumptious beefy filling and freshly toasted ciabatta bread. I gobbled this thing down like a fat kid that had been starved for a month. Ferreira (we like calling him that) was so kind to scoop us up with a sugar cone and homemade ice cream – which I must advise not to driving through centre town when mauling a dripping ice cream.

So there you have it, delicious food, a legendary cappuccino, funky fun people, gorgeous servers (that’s a personal observation), and its all right in the centre of Braamfontein – I’ll be the redhead hanging out in the corner, see you there…

Post’s hours are:
6:30 – 16:00 Mon – Fri
8:30 – 14:00 Sat
Closed Sun
Not to forget the Saturday morning markets 9:00 – 14:00 (soon to come)
